An amusing, and helpful, slip of the tongue

By

At work earlier today, I was talking to a customer service rep from a major retailer, trying to explain that the charges on my receipt for a recent order didn’t match the charges on our credit card statement.

I wanted to impress upon him that it was quite important for our business office that the numbers matched, so in my head, I started to say “if the numbers don’t match up, it’s likely I’ll get audited and that would be a hassle.”

For some reason I don’t really understand, what came out of my mouth was: “if the numbers don’t match up, it’s likely I’ll be arrested for misappropriation of state funds.”

Somewhat surprisingly, he was much more willing to help me solve that particular issue after I said that.
